An invitation from MCPP: Do you want to be a part of the SPD training process? Join the discussion THIS MONDAY (10/17, 5:30 pm on Zoom)! [Full schedule below]

[ You can also complete the Seattle Public Safety Survey until 11/30! ]

Good afternoon,

My name is Katie Kepler and I am the MCPP research analyst in Seattle’s North Precinct! I would like to invite you to take advantage of the opportunity to get to know the diverse group of new recruits that will soon join the Seattle police force!

Through coordination between Seattle University and the Seattle Police Department (SPD) we are proud to offer the opportunity for those who live and work in Seattle to meet the new police recruits in their “Before the Badge” training process!

      - See “Before all else, Seattle police recruits study the people they’ll serve” and “How to lend your voice to the conversation on community policing” for more information.

The new 45-day “Before the Badge” training program involves community engagement and education through honest dialogues, and all new Seattle Police Department recruits complete this program prior to entering the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

Their training includes a range of components to educate recruits:

Police-Community Engagement (geographic/MCPP; demographic/advisory councils)

Personal and Community Wellness

The History of Systemic Racism in Seattle and Beyond

Crisis Response & De-escalation

The purpose of the dialogues is to give community members an opportunity to engage with new Seattle Police recruits to help them learn about Seattle community concerns at the neighborhood level as part of the Seattle Police Department’s Micro-Community Policing Plans (MCPP).

Your experiences and voice matter – Please join us in this community discussion of public safety and the future of policing in Seattle!

Please note that ALL who live or work in Seattle are invited, and these meetings occur every Monday until November 28, but there are ONLY 5 MORE opportunities to be involved!

Sign Up today! https://www.publicsafetysurvey.com/index.html (Select “Before the Badge MCPP Community-Police Dialogues” at the top of the page to register and Select “The Seattle Public Safety Survey” to share your experiences of crime, public safety, fear, & perceptions of police with our research team).
