Hello Neighbors!

Thank you for turning out for the Candidate Forum on September 30th. It was a full house, all seats filled – shout out to those who stood in the back!

Thank you to the candidates for presenting themselves to the neighborhood! In our first panel we had City Attorney candidates Ann Davison and Erika Evans. We had Council District 8 candidates Alexis Mercedes Rinck and Rachael Savage. We had Council District 9 candidates Sara Nelson and a representative for Dionne Foster who was unable to attend due to a family matter. Ending the night we had Mayoral candidates Bruce Harrell and Katie Wilson.

It takes a huge amount of time, effort and resources to run for public office. We are grateful to everyone with a desire for public service who makes that effort, and for all of you for participating in democracy at the local level.

What was discussed? We had prepared questions such as: What is your response to federal intervention in our city? How do you address wealth inequality? How do you prioritize use of the public right-of-way? How do you support increased density with livability factors? What are your thoughts on the CARE team and its funding? We selected random audience questions such as: What is your policy on repeat offenders? Why can’t we better utilize the maritime marine industrial zone? What do you think are the big civil legal questions? Can we get more trees in the industrial part of Frelard? How will you make our streets and neighborhoods cleaner and safer? Housing needs green spaces and walkability, how do we get this? And for the Mayoral candidates: How will you protect Seattle from ICE? What should be done about open drug use? I’ve been trying to get 10 crossings fixed on the Burke Gilman, do you support this? What additional policies would make social housing abundant and successful?

It’s important to hear the Candidates respond in their own words! Listen to the Livestream recording to hear them. Unfortunately the audio was not captured for the first nineteen minutes but the questions and answers are noted in the page replies. The minutes are also available; these include abbreviated notes but not a full transcription.
