Hello Neighbors!

Thank you for coming to the Fremont Neighborhood Council’s first meeting of 2025 on Tuesday night!
Whether you were one of the 35 (!) neighbors who attended in-person, one of the 5 who joined via livestream, or one of the hundreds who is following along on our email, we’re so excited to build the future of the neighborhood with you.

Usually at FNC, we have speakers come in to talk about local improvement, community engagement, or general education. Since it’s a new year, we decided to have our first meeting be focused on YOU!
We went through an overview of FNC, shared how you could participate, and asked what you wanted to know more about this year.

Please remember to submit your annual dues to be an official FNC member!

We heard you. What we heard:

5 major themes emerged from our discussion:

  • Neighborhoods for people: Transit/infrastructure (e.g. Route 40, bike lanes, sewer main), pedestrian/cyclist safety, crosswalks, A.B. Ernst park next to the library, and dog parks
  • Fremont culture: Preserving Fremont culture and historical buildings
  • Housing: How zoning relates to housing affordability, renter support, Seattle Comprehensive Plan
  • Being better neighbors: Mutual aid and how to help/volunteer to support one another
  • What’s happening in Fremont: Business openings and vacancies, possibility of a new pharmacy/grocery store, non-profits, third places, Art Council, and more

The board will work on incorporating these as best as we can in our monthly general meetings. Please come back to connect with people who can help you pursue you interests! People tend to hang around and socialize after the meeting and even continue discussions at nearby businesses. Let’s keep it going!

Next month (Tuesday, February 25) we’re having SDOT and a representative from Pramila Jayapal’s office join us, so come prepared with your transit questions as they correspond to Route 40! We usually send out a complete agenda a week before the meeting.

Here’s a picture we took at the end of our meeting. Hope to see you next month!
